The genre we are working with in this project is 'Punk Rock' we are going to be using and basing our music video on Avril Lavigne's "Alice (Underground)"
Punk rock is a form of rock music genre that developed during the 1970's in the United States and the United Kingdom. by late 1970's, bands such as the Ramones, in New York City, and the Sex Pistols in London, became the "thugs" of a new musical movement. The following year saw punk rock spreading around the world, and it became a major cultural phenomenon in the United Kingdom. Punk rock artists include Avril Lavigne and The Sex Pistols.

overview of Music video
A music video is basically a short film or a collage of clips merged together
with music put with them.In the early 1800's when sheet music publishers were still incharge of the
music business, a man called George Thomas put together a series of various
black and white still images creating the first ever music video. Then in 1926 around the time when Warner brother's music industry had just started artists began making short films and merged them together with music which eventually lead to musical films being made and now to today's modern music videos.
(Above is the sheet music to the first music video made in the 1800's by George Thomas.
Music videos are very important to today's generation as they can either explain an artists emotions and how they are feeling or express in an artistic way, what they have been through. They are also very important as they are a really good source of entertainment and most of today's generation feel they can relate to the video.
Analysis of 3 music videos
'I'd do anything for love' (but I won't do that)-Meatloaf This music video is by rock artist Meatloaf. It is music video based upon 'Beauty and The Beast.' It starts with the main character (Meatloaf) looking out for his love interest, however he is scared of her spotting him as his outer apperance isn't very attractive and he runs from her each time she spots his figure. This is a very magical and extremely effective music video-The main effect they have put into this video is Meatloaf without the make-up in the mirror creating the concept of inner beauty. Also the setting supports the music very well as it is dark and candle-lit showing that love belongs to the night. The ending of the film shows her holding him and his inner-image finally shows, creating the concept of 'Never judge a book by it's cover.' or 'True beauty is found within. Love song for a Vampire-Annie Lennox This is the main music video for the movie 'Bram Stoker's Dracula and is a very powerful music video showing the good that lives within evil. It starts with Annie lennox in a castle and then flips from her scenes to scenes from the movie. The lighting within the music video is very dark and dim which shows the whole concept of vampire's being unable to come out in bright light. The music is also suits the concept of vampires very well as it shows there is some love within all evil or troubled. The music shows this as it is very powerful and romantic. Alice underground-Avril Lavigne This is the music we have decided to use for our music video and we are basing our music video on this video. the song was used for the main theme of Tim burton's version of Alice in Wonderland and is extremely clever as they have blended Avril Lavigne's acting into the actual film so it looks like she is in wonderland herself. The lighting and props are very dark, mythical and gothic showing of Tim burton's creation. |
Brief
Why have you chosen the brief? explain-give reference to work completed at AS or during the summer sessions.
I have chosen to make a music video, the reasons for this is I feel it is alot more creative than making a short film and we will hopefully be able to experiment with different effects. The other the reason I have decided to do a music video is because we did a film opening last year and it was not very good, so we decided to go for something different and something that I feel we'll be more comfortable doing.
The music we are going to be using for our music video is 'Alice (underground)' by Punk rock artist, Avril lavigne. The initial idea of our music video is to be a rather gothic and warped version of Tim burton's 'Alice in wonderland.'

Reflection Of Practice
How do you think you have improved your pratical skills during your first year of studying Media? Think about any pratical tasks you have undertaken?
I feel I have improved rather well since studying my first year of Media studies. Last year we able to be given a chance to make an opening to a crime film. In doing so we were also able to take photos so we can give people a taste of what our crime film was like.
I found it alot easier to use equiptment as I got used to using them more and I quite enjoyed working in a group.
What are the lessons you have learnt from your AS crime production? Think about the things you think you could do differently?
I would have deffintly had added more details and props to my crime film as I did not think that it was very good at the time. I have also learnt to make sure that I am as creative as possible and it is always best to work in a team.
Are there any skills/sectoons you feel you need more support with the pratical part of the course? How confident are you with the use of photoshop for example?
I feel that I do need support with photoshop; I feel comfortable with the rest of the programmes but I just really need to focus on practicing with photoshop.
